Jeffrey R. May

Jeffrey May is a member of Bodman’s Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Group. He represents business clients in complex commercial disputes.

Mr. May conducts discovery, motion practice, case management, and legal research in connection with a variety of litigation matters. Mr. May previously served as the prosecuting attorney for Dexter Township, where he handled enforcement of municipal zoning and traffic violations.

Before joining Bodman as an associate attorney, Mr. May participated in the Firm’s summer law clerk program, gaining experience with a broad range of clients and practice areas. He also served as a law clerk with the civil division of the U.S. Attorney’s office in Washington, DC, where he assisted with depositions, prepared witnesses for trial, and performed legal research in connection with pending cases.

As a student at the University of Michigan Law School, Mr. May was awarded the Dean’s Scholarship and the David W. Belin and Constance Newman Belin Law Scholarship. He volunteered as a student attorney with the Veterans Legal Clinic where he handled cases regarding conversion of personal property, landlord-tenant issues, and consumer credit disputes. He also served on the Law School Student Senate where he chaired the Academic Environment Committee. As committee chair, Mr. May led efforts to have faculty adopt more formative assessments into the law school curriculum and successfully petitioned the law school to increase student access to the law library following the complete closure of the library due to the pandemic. He also served as a junior editor of the Michigan Journal of Environmental and Administrative Law and participated in the Campbell Moot Court Competition.

Before attending law school, Mr. May worked as a realtor in the Ann Arbor area, directing and coordinating more than 125 residential real estate transactions from start to finish. He also served as an assistant to the vice president of a well-known talent booking agency for independent musical artists, where he negotiated financial terms for performances, designed and implemented touring plans, researched prospective business partners, and issued contracts.

Mr. May serves on the board of directors of the May Family Foundation, which works to provide opportunities for under-resourced youth. He volunteered for several years as an event co-chair and manager for Outfest, an annual outdoor fundraiser for the Jim Toy Community Center in Ann Arbor.
