Overview

Fatmeh Cheaib focuses her practice on representing financial institutions in connection with the negotiation and documentation of commercial loan originations, including syndicated loans and bilateral loans.

She has experience in lending transactions involving venture capital-backed emerging and established companies in the technology, energy, and life science industries.

Before joining Bodman she worked as a law clerk with a Michigan-based business law firm where she was active in litigation matters and conducted legal research involving a wide range of issues. She also served as an intern to Hon. Dana Hathaway of the Third Judicial Circuit Court and as a legal intern with a boutique law firm where she supported bankruptcy matters and managed client data in the firm’s case management system.

As a student at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, Fatmeh earned many academic honors including multiple Dean’s List honors, Best Oralist Award at the Patrick A. Keenan Appellate Moot Court Competition, the Jason Long Award for Excellence in Source Checking, multiple Book Awards, the Detroit Mercy Law Fellows Award and Scholarship, the Dean’s Scholarship for Excellence, and the Hon. Karen Fort Hood Women Lawyers Association of Michigan Scholarship. She was also selected as the sole 2022 law graduate to receive the Vivere ex Missione Award which honors a student who exemplifies the mission of the University of Detroit Mercy by demonstrating a commitment to service.

Fatmeh was also active in a number of organizations including the Moot Court Board of Advocates, the Arab American Law Students Association (President, 2020-2021 and Scholarship Committee Chair), the Immigration Law Association (Vice President, 2020-2021), and the Detroit Mercy Law Review. She served as a student member of the law school’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee and Faculty Recruitment Committee.

She is the author of “Unanimity Isn’t Always What it Seems: Judicial Philosophies and Their Impact on the Fourth Amendment,” Mich. App. Prac. J., Summer 2021, Vol. 25 No. 2.
