Floyd Gates Named a 2018 Newsmaker of the Year by the Grand Rapids Business Journal

Bodman PLC is pleased to announce that Floyd E. Gates, Jr., who manages the firm’s Grand Rapids office, has been named a 2018 “Newsmaker of the Year” in the Law category by the Grand Rapids Business Journal.
Gates received the Newsmaker award at an event attended by hundreds of local business leaders at the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park on Friday, February 1, 2019.
“It is truly an honor to be named a Newsmaker of the Year,” said Gates. “I have been fortunate to be part of the local business community for many years and am proud of the commitment that Bodman has made to serving clients in Grand Rapids and throughout West Michigan.”
Gates is an experienced banking, corporate, and litigation attorney. He has represented financial institutions throughout the country in connection with workout and related litigation along with the investigation of complex fraud schemes involving hundreds of millions of dollars in claims. He has also represented numerous financial institutions in connection with complex loan documentation and incentive financing.
Gates has also handled significant real estate related litigation and has represented insurance carriers in connection with large coverage and subrogation claims. He serves as general corporate counsel for many small and medium sized companies including financial institutions, health care institutions and providers, manufacturers, contractors and employment agencies, among others.
Gates is a veteran of the United States Army Reserves, having served for twelve years as both a communications specialist attached to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and as a legal specialist attached to an office of the Judge Advocate General (JAG).
