Bodman Receives 2024 Empowering Women Award from Michigan Lawyers Weekly

By: Bodman PLC

06/03/24

Bodman PLC is pleased to share that it has been recognized by Michigan Lawyers Weekly as a recipient of its second annual Empowering Women Award. Bodman was one of 17 law firms and legal departments selected for this recognition.

The Empowering Women Award honors law firms and legal departments that have shown a strong commitment to supporting and elevating women attorneys. Winners have demonstrated a commitment to considering women for hiring and promotions, providing mentoring and opportunities for career advancement to women and other attorneys, and establishing programs and policies to help women and other attorneys thrive professionally.

Bodman was also a recipient of the first annual Empowering Women Award in 2023. Since then, the firm has worked to further enhance its programs that support diversity and equal opportunity for all employees. Many of those programs are coordinated by the Bodman Women’s Forum and the firm’s standing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

Bodman’s Women’s Forum offers professional development, educational, and networking opportunities that empower our women attorneys and strengthen their personal and professional relationships with colleagues. Most recently, the Women’s Forum hosted a presentation that focused on how to identify and implement essential components of a stress management plan including the “Four R’s”: Regulation, Rest, Refocusing your attention and energy, and Reframing your mindset.

The DEI Committee’s programs include the internal “bInclusive” webinar series, which features outside speakers on topics related to the law and workplace culture. Most recently, Bodman welcomed Haley Moss, a female attorney who is the first openly autistic person to be admitted to the Florida Bar, for a presentation on Redefining Neurodiversity in the Legal Industry.

Bodman has a strong track record of supporting programs that promote gender diversity. Many of the firm’s women attorneys have received recent recognition for professional accomplishments, including Celeste E. Arduino and Kelly M. Burnell who were listed in Crain’s Detroit Business‘s Notable Women in Law, Lindsay M. Cummings and Monica J. Stover who were listed in Crain’s Grand Rapids Business‘s Notable Women in Law, Erica J. Shell who was listed in Michigan Lawyers Weekly‘s Up and Coming Lawyers, Michelle Thurber Czapski was listed in Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s “Go To Lawyer Power List” for Business Litigation, and Damali A. Sahu was listed in Crain’s Detroit Business‘s Notable Leaders in DEI.
