Erin Haney focuses her practice on a broad range of federal, state and local tax compliance and controversy matters affecting businesses and individuals.
Her practice involves tax analysis with respect to business succession plans and transactions including entity formation, acquisitions, conversions, and dissolutions, as well as drafting and advising regarding tax provisions of contractual agreements. Ms. Haney also has experience assisting clients in managing ongoing compliance matters, meeting reporting requirements, and analyzing the tax treatment of recurring transactions. She has successfully assisted clients in responding to federal and state tax notices and exams, disputing audit findings and assessments, addressing tax penalties and liens, and remedying past compliance issues. Ms. Haney is also active in pro bono matters including offers in compromise.
Before becoming an attorney, Ms. Haney worked as a CPA for a global accounting firm. She earned her J.D. magna cum laude at Thomas M. Cooley Law School on a merit scholarship while working full-time as a Senior Tax Auditor for the Michigan Department of Treasury. She also served as a judicial intern in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan.
