Bodman PLC announced today that Larry R. Shulman has been appointed chairman of the firm by Bodman’s executive management committee. He succeeds Ralph E. McDowell who decided earlier this year to transition from firm leadership following nearly nine years of service as chairman.
McDowell is one of Michigan’s most respected banking and bankruptcy attorneys. He will return to the full-time practice of law with Bodman as a member of the Banking and Bankruptcy and Debtor-Creditor Rights practice groups.
“We are extremely thankful for Ralph’s service and leadership,” Shulman said. “He will continue to be a big part of Bodman for many years to come.”
During McDowell’s tenure as chairman, Bodman maintained and grew its market-leading position in core areas, added several new areas of practice, and expanded geographically with the opening of its Grand Rapids office.
“It has been a privilege to have served as Bodman’s Chairman for the past nine years,” states McDowell “we have a tremendous group of talented attorneys and staff and I look forward to the continued success of the firm under Larry’s leadership.”
Shulman previously served as Bodman’s chairman from 2000 to 2009 and is one of Michigan’s most respected banking lawyers, having earned multiple Best Lawyers in America “Lawyer of the Year” accolades and exclusive ranking as a “Star Performer” for Banking Law from the prestigious Chambers USA. He will continue to practice law as a member of Bodman’s Banking Practice Group while serving as chairman.
