Overview

Mr. Rechtien concentrates his practice in construction law, commercial and insurance litigation, collections work and municipal law.  

He represents a range of clients including insurers, banks, construction owners, design professionals, contractors, non-profits and suppliers in negotiations and disputes, from pre-trial through collections.

Before joining Bodman, Mr. Rechtien was an associate at a large Detroit business law firm for four years, specializing in commercial and construction litigation. Prior to that, he worked for five years as a consulting structural engineer in Texas. He is a licensed professional engineer in Michigan, Washington and Texas (inactive).

In law school, Mr. Rechtien was an extern for the Institute for Justice in Seattle, Washington.  As an undergraduate, he was a James B. Angell Scholar and a member of Tau Beta Pi (National Engineering Honor Society) and Chi Epsilon (National Civil Engineering Honor Society).

He was listed as a 2014 “Top Lawyer” by DBusiness magazine and is has been recognized as a “Rising Star” in Construction Litigation by Michigan Super Lawyers from 2013 through 2016.  Mr. Rechtien is a frequent author and speaker on insurance, and construction and engineering law.
