Overview

Mr. Watson represents financial institutions in commercial, real estate, and construction loan originations.

With 25 years of experience as in-house counsel for a major bank, he has a diverse commercial finance background and a deep understanding of the banker's perspective in lending transactions that helps him close deals with remarkable efficiency.

He has negotiated and documented secured line of credit facilities, equipment finance facilities, letters of credit, acquisition term loans, syndicated loan transactions, construction loans, and end loans involving businesses in a broad range of industries.

Mr. Watson joined Bodman in 2011 from another large Detroit-based law firm where he was a member of the commercial finance and real estate practice groups.

Before entering private practice, Mr. Watson served as in-house counsel for LaSalle Bank Midwest (now Bank of America) and its predecessor, Standard Federal Bank, in Troy, Michigan. At LaSalle, Mr. Watson managed the commercial section of the legal department where he was responsible for a team of attorneys and paralegals that gathered due diligence and documented commercial and real estate loan transactions. He also oversaw the bank's commercial loan policies and procedures, oversaw its master commercial loan documents, and acted as liaison with outside counsel on commercial loan policies and procedures.

Mr. Watson serves as a volunteer attorney with Community Legal Resources and is a former member of the board of directors of Health Alliance Plan. He is listed in Chambers USA 2016 under Banking & Finance.
